Aavin, Tamil Nadu’s leading state-run dairy cooperative, has announced plans to increase its milk-processing capacity by 7 lakh litres per day to meet the growing demand for milk and dairy products across the state. This expansion is a part of the government’s broader initiative to modernize dairy infrastructure, improve efficiency, and cater to the rising consumption of processed milk in urban and rural markets. The move will elevate Aavin’s current processing capabilities, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality milk and value-added products such as butter, curd, ghee, and paneer.
The expansion involves upgrading existing processing plants and setting up new hi-tech facilities with modern equipment for pasteurization, storage, and packaging. Aavin will also implement automation and quality control technologies to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and product safety. Additionally, the plan includes enhancing cold chain infrastructure to reduce wastage, improve storage, and extend product shelf life, thereby benefiting both consumers and farmers.
This significant capacity hike will create new opportunities for dairy farmers and cooperatives, who play a crucial role in supplying raw milk. By providing them access to a larger market and ensuring fair procurement prices, Aavin aims to empower rural livelihoods and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s dairy economy. The move is expected to address the growing demand for milk products, especially in urban areas, and position Tamil Nadu as a major player in India’s dairy sector. Furthermore, the initiative supports the state’s focus on self-sufficiency and aligns with the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision to enhance domestic production and reduce dependence on imports.
